Description
Petals of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius). Safflower originated in present-day Syria more than 5000 years ago, making it one of the oldest cultivated plants.
In antiquity, safflower was used in Asia to dye silk pink, using a rather complicated method.
PS: The patient dyer can also grow safflower in the dye garden!
