Description
Genuine indigo from India, extracted from the indigo plant, Indigofera tinctoria.
After harvest, the tropical plant is fermented and the dye sedimented. The dye is sun dried and cut into “cakes” that are powdered, as the powder is easier to use in dyeing.
Indigo can be used in a standard vat with sodium hydroxide and sodium dithionite, but also in organic vats of many types. Indigo is one of the few natural dyes that work well on linen and cotton, in addition to wool, silk, and alpaca.
